Preparation and providing tools for the labour:
LABOUR
There are three stages of Labour.
First Stage Labour
This is the early stages of Labour and may last several hours.
The mother may be emotional and/or apprehensive. She will be having regular contractions which are likely to be more than five minutes apart and the pain will be copable.
Second Stage Labour
This stage is from when the cervix is fully dilated until the baby is born.
At this stage the mother can be very emotional and feel out of control of what is happening. Her contractions will be much more frequent and the pain more difficult to cope with.
Third Stage Labour
This is the stage when the placenta is delivered. Most women will not notice this process because they will have their new baby. However there are occasions when the placenta doesn’t separate from the uterine wall and a general anaesthetic may be required to help with its removal if the techniques used by the midwife are unsuccessful.
